How much is agentic coding making GitHub in Actions dollars?
How much do AI coding agents bill in GitHub Actions each month?
By our estimate, AI coding agents are now worth about $9 million to $14 million a month in GitHub Actions billing, roughly $110 million to $170 million a year, as of October 2026. Before Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5 on November 24, 2025, the same model puts agent-driven Actions billing near $2.2 million a month. That is a 4× jump in under a year, and it happened even though GitHub cut its runner prices on January 1, 2026. Since the launch, agents have added about $40 million of Actions billing that would not otherwise exist. Our outer bounds run from $0.8 million to $46 million a month; every input and its source is below.
GitHub does not report Actions revenue. So we built the number from what GitHub does report: pull requests, Actions minutes and list prices.

GitHub prices from the runner pricing reference, checked 2026-10-26; old prices from WarpBuild, 2025-12-15.
The rules that decide what gets billed:
- Public repos pay nothing for standard runners. Private repos pay per minute after the plan’s included minutes (GitHub docs).
- Included minutes a month: 2,000 (GitHub Free), 3,000 (Pro and Team), 50,000 (Enterprise Cloud). Larger runners never use included minutes.
- GitHub rounds every job up to the next whole minute.
- The $0.002/min fee for self-hosted runners, announced for March 1, 2026, is postponed with no new date (GitHub changelog).
- Since June 1, 2026, every Copilot code review on a private repo burns Actions minutes too (GitHub changelog, 2026-04-27). Agents now cost minutes when they write code and when they review it.
How does the model work?
monthly Actions dollars from agents =
agent PRs per month
x CI minutes per agent PR
x share of those minutes GitHub bills
x blended price per billed minute
share billed = (share on private repos using GitHub-hosted runners)
x (share beyond the plan's included minutes)
Inputs, October 2026
| Input | Low | Mid | High | Source or reasoning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Agent PRs per month, all repos | 17.0M | 22.5M | 29.25M | Low: the reported March 2026 count, held flat. Mid: 25% agent share x 90M merged PRs a month. High: 32.5% agent-marked share (amplifying.ai) x 90M (GitHub CTO chart). |
| CI minutes per agent PR | 30 | 100 | 147.2 | Low: assumption, a small repo running lint and unit tests. Mid: GitHub’s own ratio of Actions minutes to merged PRs, 100.6 in 2025 (1B/week over 43.2M/month) and 101.4 in early 2026 (2.1B/week over 90M/month). High: jacks.med median, 147.2 job-minutes per merged PR. |
| Share on private repos, GitHub-hosted runners | 50% | 65% | 74% | High: derived. Daigle’s 1B/week is about 52B a year; Octoverse puts public plus self-hosted at 13.5B; the other 74% is private work on GitHub’s runners. Low and mid allow for self-hosted and third-party runners and for agent PRs being more public than average. |
| Share beyond included minutes | 50% | 70% | 90% | Assumption. Included minutes are 2,000 to 50,000 a month. One agent-heavy repo (jacks.med) burned about 370,000 in 26 days, 7x an Enterprise Cloud allowance and 120x a Team one. Larger runners are always billed. |
| Share billed (product of the two rows above) | 25.0% | 45.5% | 66.6% | |
| Blended price per billed minute | $0.006 | $0.009 | $0.016 | Low: Linux 2 vCPU list price. Mid: assumed mix of 80% Linux 2 vCPU, 10% Linux 4 to 8 vCPU ($0.017), 7% Windows, 3% macOS = $0.00906. High: GitHub’s own valuation, $184M for 11.5B minutes. |
Outputs, October 2026
| Output | Low | Mid | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| CI minutes from agent PRs per month | 0.51B | 2.25B | 4.31B |
| Share of all Actions minutes (9.1B a month at 2.1B a week) | 5.6% | 24.7% | 47.2% |
| Billed minutes per month | 0.13B | 1.02B | 2.87B |
| Actions dollars from agents per month | $0.77M | $9.2M | $45.9M |
| Per year at that run rate | $9.2M | $110M | $551M |
A second way to get there: top-down
Actions ran 1 billion minutes a week in 2025 and 2.1 billion in early April 2026. Octoverse measured organic growth at 30% a year. Grow 2025 by 30% and you expect about 1.3 billion a week. The other 0.8 billion minutes a week, about 3.5 billion a month, is the agent surge. Bill it at the mid share (45.5%) and the mid price ($0.009) and you get $14.2 million a month.
Bottom-up says $9.2 million. Top-down says $14.2 million. That is our headline range: $9 million to $14 million a month.
Before and after Claude Opus 4.5
| Before: fall 2025 | After: October 2026 | Change | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Agent PRs per month | 4M (Sept 2025, reported) | 22.5M (mid) | 5.6x |
| Actions minutes per week | 1B (2025) | 2.1B (early April 2026) | 2.1x |
| CI minutes per agent PR | 100 | 100 | same |
| Share billed | 45.5% | 45.5% | same |
| Blended price per minute | $0.012 (mid mix scaled by the old 2 vCPU price, $0.008 vs $0.006) | $0.009 | 25% lower |
| Actions dollars from agents per month | $2.2M | $9.2M | 4.2x |
GitHub cut its prices by up to 39% on January 1, 2026. Agent volume grew so fast that agent-driven Actions dollars still quadrupled.
Extra billing since the launch: if the monthly figure rose in a straight line from $2.2 million (November 2025) to $9.2 million (October 2026), agents billed about $63 million in Actions over those 11 months, about $39 million more than the pre-launch rate would have. Call it $40 million of new Actions revenue from the agent wave so far.
One repo, up close
jacks.med is built by the team behind Sengi, and its scheduling repo is written mostly by Claude Code and Codex agents.
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| PRs opened, May 2026 | 224 |
| PRs opened, Oct 1 to 26, 2026 | 2,682 (12x) |
| PRs merged, Oct 1 to 26, 2026 | 2,518 |
| Median CI job-minutes per merged PR (25-PR sample) | 147.2 |
| CI minutes, Oct 1 to 26 | about 370,650 |
| Cost at GitHub’s 2 vCPU price | $2,224 |
| Cost at Sengi’s 2 vCPU price | $1,112 |
| Cost at the Sengi partner rate | $667 |
That is what the macro numbers look like in a single repo. Twelve times the PRs means twelve times the minutes. The month-by-month numbers are in how AI agents grew one repo’s CI bill 12×.
Where is the machine-readable model?
The formula, the events, every input with its low, mid and high value and unit, every output, the before-and-after comparison and every source URL are in /data/github-actions-agentic-coding-revenue.json.
Every source is linked beside the figure it supports, each checked October 26, 2026. Claude Opus 4.5’s release date is from Anthropic’s announcement.
Agents multiply minutes. Price per minute is the lever.
Your agents will not open fewer PRs next month. They will open more. Each one runs your full CI, often several times. You can’t cut the minutes without cutting the safety net, so cut the price of each minute.
Sengi runs GitHub Actions jobs on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D desktop CPUs on bare metal, with local NVMe and a clock past 5 GHz. Jobs start in about 2 seconds, and boot time is never billed.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does GitHub make from GitHub Actions?
GitHub does not break out Actions revenue. GitHub as a whole was at a $2 billion revenue run rate in July 2024. Our model puts the slice from AI coding agents alone at $9 million to $14 million a month in October 2026.
How was the $9 million to $14 million estimate calculated?
Agent PRs per month × CI minutes per agent PR × share of those minutes GitHub bills × blended price per billed minute. The mid case is 22.5 million PRs × 100 minutes × 45.5% × $0.009 = $9.2 million a month. A top-down check from the growth in Actions minutes gives $14.2 million. The outer bounds are $0.8 million and $46 million.
Do AI coding agents increase GitHub Actions costs?
Yes. Every agent PR triggers CI, and agents push several times per PR while they fix failing checks. GitHub's Actions volume went from 1 billion minutes a week in 2025 to 2.1 billion in early April 2026. In our own repo, 12× the PRs meant 12× the CI minutes.
How many pull requests do AI agents open on GitHub each month?
About 4 million a month in September 2025 and about 17 million in March 2026, as reported from GitHub data. Public trackers counted over 2 million agent-marked public PRs in the week to October 25, 2026.
When was Claude Opus 4.5 released, and did it change GitHub activity?
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5 on November 24, 2025. GitHub's CTO says agentic development "accelerated sharply" from the second half of December 2025, and Actions minutes doubled to 2.1 billion a week by early April 2026.
What is the cheapest way to run GitHub Actions for AI agent PRs?
Pay less per minute. Sengi runs the same jobs for $0.003 a minute at 2 vCPU against GitHub's $0.006, and offers a partner rate of $0.0018 a minute for high-volume teams. Switching is one runs-on line.
The fastest hardware for your GitHub Actions.
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D desktop CPUs boosting past 5 GHz, on bare metal with local NVMe, a fresh VM for every job, and 2 vCPU jobs ready in 2 seconds. Builds finish up to 1.9× faster than on GitHub’s runners, and at up to half GitHub’s price per minute they cost up to 74% less per build. Change one runs-on line, or give your coding agent one prompt and it opens the pull request for you.
